Last year I was strolling through the West Chester Restaurant Festival’s many venues and found something different.  It was an invitation to join a community group known as the “Chester County Citizen Corps”.  At first, I thought I wouldn’t be qualified.  Then I looked over the brochure to happily discover there were many areas in which I could help.  They include Emergency Response Teams, Community Education,  Medical Volunteers, Disaster Recovery, Computer Tasks and Amateur Radio Operators.

Hey, this life has been good to me, challenging but good, and I want to pay back to those who have been less fortunate.  My lifetime goals were to do something good for myself, my family, my church, my community and my country.  I’m certainly not finished and am working on several at present.  Quite frankly, another reason I am motivated is because of the new and volatile weather patterns and increasing threat of terrorist attack.

About the Citizens Corps …. It was founded by William Penn in 1682…. wow, are you kidding!  Some of the Citizen Corps Programs include: Neighborhood Watch, Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), and Affiliate Organizations like the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

I chose to join the Community Emergency Response Team and became certified.  It’s easy.
