Duling-Kurtz Country House & Inn – 1830
I have to admit, Duling-Kurtz was always at the top of my list of fine dining restaurants. While one bad night’s experience years ago turned me off for a while, I am so happy to report this restaurant extraordinaire is back and will not disappoint.
The ambiance is beyond reproach. While it is practically hidden by its own facade on Whitford Road in Exton, true restaurateurs take the invite from its handsome hand carved sign, turn in, and pass the old bank barn (now a Inn that provides lodging for 13 parties) and back to the old house. The setting is simply gorgeous with its garden house, bridges, brook and random spring flowers.
But enough of the landscape repartee and on to the fine foods. The owner will meet you and sit you on one of the many dining rooms. Each one is beautiful and unique on to itself. Most all are graced with a working fireplace. One area (“the Duling-Kurtz Room) is available upon request and seats 4-6 lucky patrons.
Now on with the many dish selections and great wines. Oh, my, they still have lemon pop-overs served hot with a sweet and delicious lemon sauce and served right from the oven. They are simply to die for. There are always a selection from several yummy soups, appetizers and a number of always fresh and special salads. But then, your eyes will immediately teleport to the vast assortment of entrees that include all of the traditional fish, fowl and meat dishes, but also some unusual treats like Schweinepfeffer and Beef Stroganoff. Desserts are numerous and varied and further enhanced by a number of fine liquors. Don’t miss this charming Country Inn, certainly one of the very finest in Chester County.
